ransfer news LIVE!

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham continue their push for major signings in the January transfer window. The Gunners in particular are eager to strengthen as they bid to win a first Premier League title in two decades and fans could be treated to two stellar additions. The first being Mykhaylo Mudryk who, despite interest from Stamford Bridge, is reportedly more keen on a move to the Emirates. Arsenal also keen on Barcelona starlet Alejandro Balde.

Joao Felix, meanwhile, reportedly wants to join Chelsea, with the Blues willing to match Atletico Madrid’s demands. Chelsea may also turn to World Cup finalist Marcus Thuram in an effort to strengthen their attack, while David Datro Fofana could be sent out on loan.

Tottenham have joined Chelsea in the race for Brighton’s Leandro Trossard, while Pedro Porro remains a target and Jordan Pickford and David Raya are potential names to succeed captain Hugo Lloris. Wout Weghorst remains a target for Manchester United on loan, though Besiktas have hit back at “fake” reports. Follow all the latest transfer news, gossip and rumours below!

Gallas: Fernandez has not proved himself

Enzo Fernandez’s proposed move to Chelsea has pretty much collapsed, and William Gallas is relieved it has.

The Benfica midfielder looked increasingly likely to join the Blues after his stellar World Cup displays for Argentina, but he is now expected to stay in Portugal at least until the summer after Chelsea did not pay his €120m release clause.

“What he did in the World Cup for his age was brilliant, that’s why he was voted the best young player in the tournament,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“Even if he’s a world champion, I don’t know if he is worth that value. I just have a problem with the price of the players who haven’t proved themselves.

“Every player can have one great season. The most difficult thing is to have the second great season in a row, then the third and the fourth. It is only then that you can put the price on these players, but straight away after two games, to put a price like this?

“I know it’s the market but the club has to be careful. You can’t put a price of €120m on one player like this.”

Besiktas hit back at “fake” reports

Besiktas have slammed “fake” reports suggesting striker Wout Weghorst could leave the club due to a release clause amid interest from Manchester United.

Reports suggested the forward’s stint in Turkey could come to an end should a suitor pay a release clause of around £2.2m, thereby allowing the buyer to approach parent club Burnley.

Besiktas have slammed such talk in a fiery club statement.

It read: “The claim that there is an exit clause in our football player’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of 2.5 million Euros in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.

“However, the news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely untrue. The initiative regarding Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club.”

Pickford wants to stay at Everton

Jordan Pickford has told Everton he wants to remain at the club, but issues remain as talks continue over a new contract.

The Sun report that the goalkeeper is happy at Everton but his wage demands are currently not being met, leading to Manchester United and Tottenham making it clear they would double his current salary.

It remains to be seen whether Everton and Pickford can strike a deal, or if England’s number one will be off in the summer.

West Ham maintain En-Nesyri interest

West Ham remain interested in Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri but believe reaching a deal during this month’s transfer window will be difficult, writes Malik Ouzia.

The Hammers pushed to sign En-Nesyri two summers ago after a prolific campaign but were unsuccessful in their pursuit, before the forward then struggled with injury in the early part of 2021/22 and finished the season with just five goals in all competitions.

West Ham spent around £170million on eight new signings last summer, including £30.5m on Italian centre-forward Gianluca Scamacca.

As a result, David Moyes will likely have to rely on loan signings for any improvements to his squad this month, though a proposed deal for En-Nesyri could include an obligation to buy at a later date.

Zaha committed to Palace

Crystal Palace could look to strengthen their squad during this month’s transfer window and expect Wilfried Zaha to see out his contract, writes Nick Purewal.

Zaha is in the final six months of his deal and can now talk to overseas clubs about a free transfer in the summer.

But the 30-year-old, who has interest from Barcelona and Juventus, remains committed to staying at Palace for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea still in for Zakharyan

Chelsea remain interested in Dynamo Moscow midfielder Arsen Zakharyan.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that the Blues are still following the 19-year-old, but their focus on other deals has slowed things down. However, it’s believed Zakharyan would be incredibly keen to join Chelsea.

The Blues were in negotiations for the midfielder in the summer, before talks ultimately broke down.

“For several days, there have been intense negotiations between Dynamo and Chelsea, in which our club took a constructive position,” a statement from the Russian club said at the time.

“However, it is not possible to transfer a player in this summer transfer window for a number of technical reasons beyond our control. Nevertheless, Dynamo remain open to offers that will suit the club and the football player.

“At the moment, the parties have decided that Arsen will continue playing for Dynamo.”

Arsenal make new signing... sort of

Arsenal have appointed Hussein Isa as attacking-phase coach.

The 34-year-old has represented England at futsal, having previously spent time with both QPR and Tottenham as a youngster and later played for non-league club Hashtag United.

Known online as the “Tekkers Guru”, Isa has built a big following on social media, frequently posting videos of his skills and free-kick ability.

Previously, he has stood in for stars the calibre of Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi during various commercial shoots.

The role, which is expected to start in the summer ahead of the 2023-24 season, will likely see Isa work alongside the Gunners’ first-team as well as their academy talents, focusing on various technical aspects of their game.

Besiktas reject Weghorst offer

Besiktas have turned down a proposal put forward by Manchester United for Wout Weghorst.

Negotiations continue to take place for the striker, who is a Burnley player but on loan at the Turkish club.

The Manchester Evening News report that United are likely to pay a fee to Burnley, which would be sent to Besiktas to terminate the loan, but the initial offer has been rejected.

Kuol set for loan spell

Newcastle teenager Garang Kuol will join Hearts on loan for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old, who featured at the World Cup for Australia, officially joined the Magpies at the start of January after the club reached an agreememt with Central Coast Mariners last year.

Kuol was always expected to go straight out on loan and that will be the case, with Hearts beating other clubs including Reading in the race to secure the forward.

Colwill remains important for Chelsea

Chelsea still see Levi Colwill as an important part of their long-term plans.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Brighton and has become a regular for the Seagulls, who are in flying form under Roberto De Zerbi.

While Chelsea have now signed centre-back Benoit Badiashile, to go with summer arrivals Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly, the Athletic report that these moves have not impacted how the Blues see Colwill’s role in the future.
